Employee Engagement - Update

You may remember in my first write up on Employee Engagement I asked talked to a hairdresser who had been at the same salon for 10 years what made her happy.

I must be just nosey - so when at a really remarkable hospital - Royal Marsden I talked to a nurse who was treating my husband expertly how long she had been working there - without a blink she said 33 years! My HR antenae again swung into action and I asked her what kept her at Royal Marsden. She first of all said that it was a good question then listed the following

  • It is very close to where she lives
  • They are very flexible about her shifts - she is now contracted for three days but she can work more if she wants to
  • She feels that she is always learning new things
  • She is proud to be working at a pioneering place, she believes that she was in at the begining of new ways of treating cancer
  • When she had her children there was a very flexible approach to coming back to work
  • She likes working with the team

Just another example of employee engagement that results in a dedicated worker who perhaps does not even realise how good she is. Although I am sure she must be given that positive feedback too!
