Managing Conflict
During periods of high change people often feel the need to stick with what is known or comfortable. Conflict is often not far away if you need to move people out of their comfort zone.
- How comfortable are you with change management?
- How aware are you of the effect of change on you and others with whom you interact?
- In the continually evolving environment of your organisation, do you sometimes feel that change causes conflict in varying degrees with colleagues and that this causes negativity?
If you feel that conflict exists as a result of change and that this affects you, then this one day workshop will enable you to understand the effect of change within the context of your organisation, why this creates conflict and how to handle it. You will be introduced to a range of simple but effective techniques, enabling you to turn potentially negative interactions with others into a productive, positive experience.
Aim:
Through gaining an awareness of the dynamics of change and why this can create conflict within the workplace, delegates will explore various ways of harnessing the positive aspects of change and practice techniques of avoiding conflict.
Objectives:
By the end of this workshop delegates will be able to:
- Identify why people react negatively to change
- Apply the principles of the ‘Change Curve’ to the context of their own work environments
- Use a variety of techniques, including assertiveness, influencing and conversation skills to gain ‘buy-in’ to a message
- Explain how to use positive body language and why they should avoid negative body language in a ‘conflict’ situation, thereby ensuring effective delivery of the required message
- Rationalise own fears in dealing with conflict and identify coping strategies
- Develop strategies to overcome conflict in a variety of scenarios
Methods:
The one day workshop will be highly participative and will draw upon delegates’ experience of conflict within the workplace. Delegates will be able to practice various techniques of overcoming conflict through role play, with tutor guidance and feedback.
