Women, Ethnic Minorities and Deprived Areas Fall Behind, Says CBI

The UK could receive a £580 billion boost if more businesses were started by women, ethnic minorities and people outside London and the South East, a CBI report has said. The brief, titled 'Boosting Enterprise Across the Population' shows that the gap between enterprise levels by these groups and the rest of the population is widening. The government must now recognise that it needs to tackle the fundamental barriers preventing business start-ups and growth. In particular, it says that boosting enterprise in deprived areas requires better infrastructure. There is also a need to improve access to finance for certain communities.
