Preparing to Lead a Team

Teams are made of individuals – they are all unique in terms of their knowledge, skills and attitudes – and the way they behave in the team setting. As a leader, your role is to engage the collective energy of the group, but at the same time giving individuals in that team the focus and attention they need. If you in a team leadership position and need to refresh or refine your team leadership skills, or you are about to embark on a team leadership role – then this one day workshop is for you.

Aim:                                

To explore the key requirements of tem leadership, identify underpinning process and relating this back to delegate’s unique organisational experience and requirements.

Objectives:      

At the end of the workshop delegates will be able to:

  • List the key attributes of an effective team leader
  • Identify the factors needed for team cohesion
  • Manage team dynamics effectively, including the identification of individual strengths and weaknesses
  • Describe key processes necessary to underpin team leadership, including performance management
  • Define and set objectives for individuals and teams based on the principles of SMART: Specific – Measurable – Achievable – Realistic - Timebound
  • Describe ways of motivating staff and overcoming negativity
  • Give structured and constructive feedback

This is a highly participative workshop utilising tutor input, practical exercises, and facilitated interactive discussion.
