Managing Absence

Absence is a very real issue with a cost in billions to the UK economy. Some absence is necessary and legitimate, but in all too many cases, absence is for reasons, stated or otherwise, which are not legitimate. There are many reasons why an individual might absence himself/herself from the workplace contrary to accepted workplace procedures, rules and regulations. In may cases, identification of the potential cause for absence could avoid the situation developing – managing attendance rather than absence. This workshop will explore the issues of managing attendance and absence and will provide you with essential information and some strategies and tools that you can use back in the workplace.

Aim:                                

To provide delegates with the knowledge, tools and techniques to develop and implement strategies for quickly and effectively managing absence and promoting attendance within the workplace.

Objectives:      

At the end of the workshop delegates will be able to:

  • Describe best practice in the management of unauthorised absence                 
  • Develop strategies for handling absence and promoting attendance
  • Challenge absenteeism in an appropriate manner
  • Utilise tools and techniques for managing absenteeism.

Methods: 

The workshop will be of a highly participative nature incorporating, tutor input, group discussion and case studies.
